A BREED THAT NEEDS TO BE WELL EXPLAINED AND WELL UNDERSTOOD.

In the same litter are born the HAIRLESS and the coated ones, the POWDERPUFF. The HAIRLESS has hair on the extremities, head, tip of tail, feet (parts which can freeze). The POWDERPUFF is completely cover with hair.

Even if his name is CHINESE CRESTED, it seems that he would be an African Terrier.

For the HAIRLESS, we select for a perfect clean hairless skin, except for the extremities. For us the question of a perfect skin is extremely important if we want that the real hairless survive.

For the POWDERPUFF, we select for a close and silky under coat and an outer coat light like a veil.

We try in both varieties to produce good dentition, gentle temperaments and dogs about 7 to 10 pounds when adults. This breed is agreeable as pet, it likes to be close to human.

The physical aspect is very different from one variety compare to the other. In the HAIRLESS variety the animal is naked and it the variety POWDERPUFF the animal has a coat.

How to choose what is good for you ? Both varieties have advantages and disadvantages. One must choose for its needs.

The HAIRLESS variety can be train to go to the litter box, do not think about letting this dog go outside to relieve itself. Inside, it has the advantage of not loosing hair in the house, it is also naturally clean of his body, it will clean itself and its hands often much like a cat. It is a dog that will glue to you, because it's looking for your body heat. It is naturally affectionate and possessive of its humans and for those who like to sleep with their dog, it will warm your bed (the bed must be low on the floor, so the dog can go to its litter box, if needed). It has no odours and do not leave oily stains. Usually it is wash each month, we dry it and we rub it with moisturising cream. We never put rough material on the skin so it never get scratched.

The POWDERPUFF variety can go outside in winter under supervision, because the animal is small, it can freeze rapidly, it can also be train to the litter box. It doesn't loose hair, rarely make felt if it is brush properly once a week. It is a dog that likes to be clean. It is very affectionate but doesn't need your body heat. It loves immensely and can show it. It has no particular smell, you can put perfume without exaggeration. One bath in 2 months is sufficient.

When it's cold !!!

In both varieties, it is advantageous to let them wear coats when the cold season it there, we must never forget that all small dogs breeds need to be protected from the cold.

How to act with a small dog !

First a dog is not a human child and will never be one. It can be your baby, but always remember that it is before all an animal and that its needs are much different from those of a human child.

*We do not lift a little dog in the air while swigging it, the animal will be scare. We can take it solidly in the arms, making it feels that it is in security. We do not take a dog under the armpits, its joints would be damage.

*We bend slowly to take the dog, we can place it on a table to be at its height during the grooming, but you must put a rubber mat for it to be in security, you must never let it out of your sight, an accident can happen fast ( the bones are small, easy to break and difficult to repair). We do not answer the phone leaving the dog alone on a table, we put it on the floor before answering.

*Dogs of small breeds are not toys for children, we must teach the respect of life. Children under 7 years of age do not have usually the capacity nor the reasoning to understand the results of bad manipulations.

AVOID FALSE REPRESENTATION

It does happen sometimes that a person buy a Chinese Crested dog of the Hairless variety and after a little while find herself/himself with a dog cover with hair all over or with tufts of hair, or worse the dog was a Powderpuff and was shaved or treated with hair-removing cream. This type of deception is very bad for the breed and damage the reputation of breeders who are working hard to preserve the integrity of the breed.

The production of Hairy-Hairless and its proliferation in the breeding make the search for the True Hairless difficult for the serious buyer. Thinking about helping you, here is what you should check when you want to buy a Real Hairless.

OPEN THE MOUTH OF THE DOG

The fact of not having premolar, leaves a space in the mouth and because the teeth are not support on each side they have tendency to lean forward.

Good dentition of a True Hairless

If a dog has a crest up to the shoulder, you must know that it has hair on other places on the body. If a dog has a plume (tail) full of hair up to the derriere, you must know that it has hair on other places on the body. If a dog has the socks thick and up to the ankles, you must know that it has hair on other places on the body.

Pictures from dogs in the show ring, are dogs which are very often much groomed to have this exaggerate presentation, because no True Hairless can have a crest, a plume and socks so abundant and so thick. This does not go with the genetic of the True Hairless nor with the hair texture of the Hairless.

What is a Hairy Hairless ? Well it is not visually a real Hairless nor a real Powderpuff, but a mediocre quality of the Hairless variety and a mediocre quality of the Powderpuff variety. Even if a person tells you that it is a third variety, it is not true till an official registry put it in writing in his standard of the breed. The Hairy Hairless is the reject of the breed. Not enough naked to be Hairless not enough coat to be a Powderpuff. This is an animal that must be shave and treated with depilatory cream constantly to look nice. Bear in mind that you will not get at the same time, the huge furnishings and a naked body on the same dog, those are fairy tales. BEWARE OF STORY TELLERS
